3T Strada Italia Red Xplr 1x 13-speed aero road bike

The 1x pioneering 3T Strada aero road bike returns to its single chainring roots, now fueled by the latest SRAM Red Xplr groupset, ostensibly developed for gravel racing, not the road. But now, with 1x drivetrains much more mainstream – fueled both by gravel racing and time trialing – 3T has put together another killer single-ring road racer…

3T Strada Italia Red Xplr 1x 13-speed aero road bike

(Photo/3T)

3T’s Strada aero road bike made big waves 7.5 years ago when it hit the scene as the first real 1x production road bike, touting the streamlined aerodynamic benefits, plus some of the first 30mm wide road racing tires. Even with their own unique cassettes and a bit of Aqua Blue pro road racing on the 1x setup, it was soon evident that roadies just weren’t ready for 1x. And a year later 3T acquiesced with a 2x compatible version of their road bike. The 1x was still there, but it was clear that the market wasn’t quite ready.

Then, earlier this summer, 3T rolled out an all-new lighter Strada made in Italy. It aerodynamics ratcheted performance up a notch, with deeper & wider tubes, fully integrated cable routing, and mega 35mm tire clearance. But it still had a 2x drivetrain, although with a bolt-on front derailleur tab that hinted a 1x build would be coming.

What’s new?

3T Strada Italia Red Xplr 1x 13-speed aero road bike, SRAM Red AXS XPLR gravel race groupset

Matching up the new aero road bike’s even bigger tires on wide & deep aero wheels and its even deeper aerodynamic tube shapes, this new Strada Italia features a 1×13-speed Red Xplr groupset with tighter gearing steps but a wide 460% (10-46T) spread that rivals modern 2x setups.

3T Strada Italia 1x – Pricing, options & availability

The new 1x 3T Strada Italia essentially comes in just one premium, ultra-expensive build since its key component is SRAM’s top-tier wireless gravel group and 3T’s handmade Italian carbon Torno crankset or a Red powermeter. But you do have at least the option for a couple different wheelsets depending on the depth of your pockets.

Or you can always buy a new Strada Italia frameset on its own for 5950€, and build it with a more affordable electronic 1x gravel groupset yourself.

The new 3T Strada Italia 1×13 Red AXS XPLR build starts at about $12,000 / 11,705€ with 3T’s own 25mm hooked internal x 32mm external x 45mm deep x 1640g Discus 45|32 LTD wheelset.

3T Strada Italia Red Xplr 1x 13-speed aero road bike with Zipp 353 NSW wheels

Or for a whopping $13,400 /13,167€ you get a 3T Strada Italia 1×13 Red AXS XPLR with 25mm hookless internal x 45mm biomimicry variable depth x 1308g Zipp 353 NSW wheels.

Either one you pick, 3T builds them to order with a claimed 8-12 week lead time… plenty of time for your check to clear, I hope.

Argonaut Cycles is excited to announce its new R43 Road Wheels. Hot on the heels of the recently launched D33 gravel wheels, the R43 wheels are designed for the ultimate performance and ride quality on the road.

The new R43 Wheels are built with proprietary rim profiles and Argonaut’s “thoughtful selection” of spokes and hubs, keeping serviceability and longevity in mind.

Keep it Stiff

At the core of the R43 wheel design philosophy is stiffness. The Argonaut R43 hoop was engineered to be “incredibly stiff”, ensuring all of the power from the rider gets fully delivered to the road.

Argonaut Cycles R43 Wheelset logo

When the rider uses Argonaut’s compliant frames, they can experience a smooth ride that doesn’t sacrifice the rigidity and responsiveness of the wheel.

Keep it Aero

The Argonaut R43 Wheels feature a 43mm rim depth. They chose this depth for its balance between being aerodynamic and lightweight. After extensive research and testing, Argonaut found that a 43mm rim depth offers significant aero benefits compared to a shallower rim. But any deeper, and you start paying a more significant weight penalty, which is why they feel 43mm is the sweet spot.

Superior Build

Every move made during the design of the R43 was focused on performance. The wheels are built with incredibly strong and light DT Aerolite spokes. The construction is said to be completed to a precise tension of 125kg. This ensures durability and performance under the most demanding scenarios.

Argonaut Cycles R43 Wheelset rim tape

On top of that, the hidden nipples will further enhance the R43 Wheels aerodynamic profile, further reducing drag (and possibly irritating mechanics who have to work on them). The DT Spokes are paired with DT Swiss 180 hubs.

The DT Swiss 180 hubs have a reputation for being reliable and easy to service. The hubs are light and durable with the total wheelset weight a claimed 1266 grams.

While pro rider team transfer news isn’t often big on our tech-focused priority list, Tom Pidcock’s move to Q36.5 Pro Cycling for the next three years brought up an interesting question.

Would he now race on all of the Scott bikes of Q36.5? Or would he somehow still race on those all-new off-road bikes that Pinarello developed especially for the multidisciplinary talent over the last few years while he raced with the INEOS Grenadiers team?

The simple answer is… why not both?

Tom Pidcock to join Q36.5 Pro Cycling and race Scott road bikes

We found out on Friday that Tom Pidcock signed with Q36.5 Pro Cycling to race for the next few years on the two-year-old Swiss UCI Pro Team. A team that is pretty much road-only as far as I know (quite similar to Ineos a few years ago, in fact). And then promptly, Scott Sports sent out a press release saying they were excited to see the 25-year-old Englishman racing on their bikes next year.

But that Friday PR burst had some curiously vague statements…

Q36.5 referred to Pidcock as “Double Olympic Champion” as their highlight, but they only mentioned a couple of road Classics. And they failed to utter any of the words: cyclocross, cross-country, or mountain bike… even though that is where Pidcock won his 2 World Championships and 2 Olympic Gold medals over the past few years.

(Photo/Scott)

Also, Scott’s co-CEO Pascal Ducrot was only a bit clearer, stating that they were “delighted that Tom Pidcock will be joining the team, and will be riding SCOTT road bikes and Syncros components from 2025.” Elaborating just a bit more detail, Scott reiterated that the Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team will ride their Foil RC, Plasma RC TT & all-new ultralight Addict RC road bikes in competition in 2025. No mention of anything off-road since that’s out of the team’s racing scope up to now.

So far, Q36.5 hasn’t shown any off-road ambitions, so Scott have not really had any reason to expand on that list. But Pidcock is clearly a different story, right?

Pidcock will actually race Scott AND Pinarello bikes in 2025

(Photo/Cory Benson)

Well, today Pinarello has cleared up the matter a bit more, announcing that the “multiple world and Olympic champion [will] continue riding Pinarello’s flagship off-road bikes for the next three years.” The keywords there being ‘off-road‘ bikes.

Although team and sponsor negotiations must have been a bit more complicated than usual, it makes sense that Q36.5 & Scott were willing to make some concessions to lock in their new star rider, as they look to boost their young team and move up in the ranks of the peloton. Pidcock has shown promise on the road after all, with a 2022 Tour stage win up Alpe d’Huez, Amstel Gold & Strade Bianche.

Back off-road though, Pidcock did after all work closely with Pinarello to develop 2 completely new off-road bikes for the Italian bike maker while racing for Ineos. In fact, when he started with Ineos, he was racing on BMC bikes with blacked-out logos to keep those sponsors happy. But it looks like things might be a bit more transparent next year.

(Photo/Jordan Villella)

First, Pinarello created an all-new Crossista F cyclocross bike just for Pidcock. And then he proceeded to win the World Championship on it, right away.

(Photo/Cory Benson)

Next, Pinarello developed an all-new Dogma XC full-suspension mountain bike just for Pidcock (and a companion XC hardtail for Ineos teammate Pauline Ferrand-Prévot). And again, Pidcock immediately rode his new cross-country bike to another World Championship title, then followed it up with an Olympic Gold medal the next summer.

He wasn’t specifically involved in their Grevil F, as far as I remember. But Pinarello notes that if Pidcock races gravel in the new 3 years, that will be his weapon of choice.

Fausto Pinarello told me in person last spring when I was test riding the new Dogma XC, that his team put a lot of time and work into developing new off-road bikes together with Tom Pidcock. So, it’s interesting to hear that this off-road bike development partnership will apparently continue, even after Pidcock joins a team sponsored by another road bike maker.

And so I’ll be paying special attention to how the new team and these two competing bike makers work it all out over the next few race seasons across road, gravel, cyclocross, and mountain bike racing. It’s certainly uncommon to see a professional athlete racing 2 different bike brands in different disciplines, when their team bike sponsor already makes absolutely top-tier race bikes across all categories.

But, I guess Tom Pidcock is an unconventional cyclist, so maybe I should be so surprised.

Tom Pidcock to Remain Part of the Pinarello Family

Multiple world and Olympic champion to continue riding Pinarello’s flagship off-road bikes for the next three years

Pinarello is pleased to confirm Tom Pidcock will continue riding and helping to develop its flagship off-road bikes for the next three years following his move from INEOS Grenadiers to the Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team.

Pidcock has enjoyed huge success on Pinarello’s off-road range over the last four years, winning world and Olympic cross country mountain bike titles on the Dogma XC. That bike was developed in both hard and softail models in the space of six months, specifically for him and Pauline Ferrand-Prévot, who also went on to achieve world and Olympic success.

The 25-year-old British athlete also triumphed on the Crossista F at the 2022 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships, and will have that bike at his disposal again moving forwards, along with the Grevil F if he chooses to compete in any gravel competitions. The only occasions he will not compete on a Pinarello will be during road events.

Pinarello President Fausto Pinarello said: “We’re thrilled to confirm Tom will continue racing on our cyclo-cross, cross country mountain bike and gravel bikes. He is an amazing rider with phenomenal technical skills and it’s been a pleasure working with him on the Crossista and Dogma XC, both models in segments where we hadn’t had bikes for a long time.

Tom is a rider who knows what he wants. His unwavering pursuit of excellence has challenged us a lot and enabled us to produce three incredible frames which he’s ridden to success on the grandest stages in the sport. We are delighted to keep this successful collaboration alive.”

Tom Pidcock said: “Working with Fausto and the team at Pinarello over the past four years has been a privilege, and a really enjoyable experience. I am so happy I get to stay working with them on everything off-road moving forwards.

So far, we have developed three cyclo-cross and XC MTB frames together and all of them exceeded expectations from the moment I sat on them, I could not have asked for more. I felt so confident on them that I was able to race and win after the first couple of rides.

To me, our relationship feels more like a partnership than a sponsorship. I’m looking forward to the next three years of racing and developing more great bikes with Pinarello.

2025 Colnago Y1Rs innovative aero road race bike, wind tunnel

This wildly shaped Colnago Y1Rs aero road bike feels like a seismic shift for one of the most well-known Italian bike companies in the world. While most big bike players have built full aero road bikes for years, Colnago had been something of a traditionalist holdout – sticking with subtle aero tweaks to their light all-road race bike, or only going completely aero for time trials. And thanks to the dominant riding of Tadej Pogačar, they still managed to win heaps of races and grand tours.

But the situation has changed. And now Pogi has a much more aero bike to take on those flatter, faster days of bike racing…

All-new Colnago Y1Rs proper aero road race bike

The new aerodynamic bike is a major technological shift for Colnago, interestingly at the same time they are modernizing steel road bike production and honoring their classics, too. With the all-new Y1Rs aero road bike, Colnago has created a new aerodynamic benchmark for themselves for top-tier racing. And it’s been a surprisingly long-time-coming, with multiple Tour de France wins in recent years. But maybe this wild all-new design explains a bit more why it took so long.

(Photos/Colnago)

Developed in close collaboration with Politecnico di Milano and Khalifa University, the Y1Rs represents a leap forward in design and technology, offering riders a bike built to meet the highest demands of speed and precision.

Why did they wait so long to go fully aerodynamic?

All-new aerodynamic Colnago Y1Rs aero road bike, Politecnico Milano wind tunnel

It seems with the previous UCI regulation on tube shapes, Colnago figured they could get the most all-around benefit out of just evolving their V4Rs platform to balance lightweight and aerodynamics. But once the UCI ditched that 3:1 regulation, it was time to completely rethink how aero Colnago could go with this more flexible framework.

2025 Colnago Y1Rs innovative aero road race bike, CFD outputs

Limitations in CFD accuracy and reliability led Colnago to develop a better simulation model. So, this new aero road bikes was developed more in the wind tunnel than just CFD to ensure more realistic results. What they did was start in CFD then quickly move to 3d printed elements layered over a modular platform that they could take into the wind tunnel.

All-new aerodynamic Colnago Y1Rs aero road bike, pressure sensors

Then, adding tons of tiny pressure sensors in small holes drilled into the mock-up, Colnago measured the real airflow over the prototypes to collect more accurate data. And with that, they refined their CFD process creating a wind model they say was twice as accurate as anything else used in the bike industry.

A bike that is, according to our studies, the most aerodynamic UCI-compliant road bike in the World Tour

What’s new?

All-new aerodynamic Colnago Y1Rs aero road bike, frame detail

All of that led to an innovative new design that mashes up time trial-inspired aerodynamics to create a light and manageable aero road bike for everyday racing. As they describe it, “A bike that is, according to our studies, the most aerodynamic UCI-compliant road bike in the World Tour“.

  • Bayonet fork with external steerer in front of the headtube
  • DEFY seat cluster, decoupling the seatpost & seat tube
  • WYND gull wing handlebar cockpit
  • curved/kinked downtube to hug the front wheel
  • integrated aero bottle cages
  • frame geometry?

Bayonet fork

2025 Colnago Y1Rs innovative aero road race bike, bayonet fork

The Bayonet fork design is simply the result of being able to extend the narrow aero section of the headtube without running afoul of the UCI’s rules – inspired by the Colnago TT1. Longer narrower airfoils just have lower drag. The double steerer (1 inside & 1 outside the headtube) allows for increased stiffness, even with smaller headset bearings.

DEFY seat cluster

2025 Colnago Y1Rs innovative aero road race bike, DEFY seat cluster

The Defy seat cluster is a 2-fold solution. First, without the conventionally-vertical tube shape, the two angled sections of seat tube get effectively deeper relative to the movement of air, while still fitting into the UCI tube shape limitations. Secondly, Colnago says that aero bikes are generally too stiff, so decoupling the straight line from saddle to bottom bracket introduces vertical compliance for improved rider comfort, especially with the now slacker angle of the short post. Once the proprietary seatpost is cut, the rider still has 1.5cm of height adjustment.

WYND bar

2025 Colnago Y1Rs innovative aero road race bike, WYND bar

The Wynd bar is essentially the same solution just rotated horizontally, with upturned wings said to deflect air away from the turbulence around the centerline of the bike. Yet, while Defy aims for flex, Wynd is said to be the stiffest handlebar setup that Colnago has tested.

Aero downtube & cages

All-new aerodynamic Colnago Y1Rs aero road bike, aerodynamic integrated water bottle cages

The all-new downtube shape manages to closely follow the front wheel in the upper half of the tube. Then, it gets a kink just at the end of the wheel’s curve to tuck the main water bottle neatly into the frame. Colnago explains that their CFD analysis showed aero benefit to having the front wheel tucked close to the frame or set further apart, depending on each portion of the spinning wheel. So their solution does both in what they describe as, “the final word on the optimal downtube configuration within the limits of current UCI regulations.

In the end, all of the Colnago analysis showed that conventional water bottles are not very aerodynamic, but they are such a simple & effective solution. But, by tucking aero cages directly into the downtube like this (which we’ve also seen from BMC), they got aero gains with real-world practicality.

So, how fast is a Colnago Y1Rs aero road bike?

All-new aerodynamic Colnago Y1Rs aero road bike, wind tunnel

Ultimately, the refined aero solution resulted in a 19% reduced frontal area compared to the V4Rs. That alone was sure to make it faster. But then, testing the complete bike head to head with its “best” aero road bike competitor, Colnago says the new Y1RS “outperformed it in any wind conditions“.

2025 Colnago Y1Rs innovative aero road race bike, wind tunnel results

The weighted average drag gains are pretty big according to Colnago data. The Y1Rs saves just a single watt straight into the wind, but 8W less compared to its best aero competitor. And a 25W savings vs. the all-rounder V4Rs, further quantifying the rationale for finally getting around to building a proper full aero road race bike.

Geometry

2025 Colnago Y1Rs innovative aero road race bike, geometry

The new MY25 Colnago Y1Rs comes in 5 stock sizes (XS-XL) just like the V4Rs. But the new bike’s geometry has been refined, working with both the pro men of UAE Emirates and pro women of UAE ADQ to improve high-speed handling and control for flat and rolling racing.

This all-new aero road bike features a much steeper headtube angle at 73-73.5° for the larger bikes, and marginally steeper for smaller sizes that are more limited by toe overlap. Plus, a steeper effective seat angle and longer frame reach to put the rider further forward in their aero tuck.

Each frame size also gets its own fork, customized to make sure Trail is consistent for predictable handling in all sizes.

Tech details

All-new aerodynamic Colnago Y1Rs aero road bike, up close

Colnago assures that the Y1Rs is still a lightweight race bike. The raw unpainted Y1RS frame weighs 965g, plus 450g for the fork. At the same time, it equals the V4RS in stiffness, actually inching up 3.5% stiffer when out of the saddle sprinting.

There has been much speculation about Campagnolo this year. The storied Italian component manufacturer was left off cycling’s most prestigious stage after being flicked by French powerhouse Decathlon-AG2R for Shimano in 2024. For the 2025 season, Campagnolo has a seat back at the world tour table with another iconic French outfit — Cofidis.

Campagnolo Returns to the World Tour

It’s poetic that another French World Tour team would ring the bells for Campagnolo’s return to the World Tour. The news has many Campagnolo fans breathing a sigh of relief after a few years of watching the brand fall away from professional racing. Now, along with Team Cofidis, Campagnolo looks to add another chapter to its 90-year racing history.

Where Has Campy Been?

Campagnolo hasn’t been dormant; on the contrary, they’ve released quite a few products in the past two years. Many of which take a slight step out of their comfort zone, like the Super Record S and Ekar GT, to name a few. However, the presence of SRAM and Shimano has grown so exponentially that it seemed challenging for the Vicentine company to compete.

Starting January 1st, 2025, Cofidis and their new LOOK bikes will be outfitted with the newest Campagnolo shifting components and wheels. The agreement will run for the next four years and includes both the men’s and women’s Cofidis squads.

LOOK and Campagnolo Combo

The 2025 Cofidis team edition LOOK bikes will be specced with the newest Campagnolo Super Record Wireless groupset. With this, riders will have their pick of cassettes, cranksets, lengths, and everything in between—it’s good to be the pro.

Wheels-wise, Cofidis riders will be using the new Bora ULTRA WTO wheels. The Campagnolo Bora ULTRA WTO wheels come in two depths: 45 mm and 60mm. Both employ a 23mm 2-WAY FIT internal rim bed and should fit well with the team’s 28mm or 30mm Continental tubeless tires.

In addition to the  Bora ULTRA WTO, they will use the Bora Ultra WTO TT disc wheel (just 930 grams) for time trials. All Bora ULTRA TWO wheels spin on Campagnolos’ CULT  ceramic bearings.

What’s Next For Campagnolo?

We’ll have to wait and see. They are back on the World Tour and showcasing their beautiful craftsmanship, piloted by the world’s best athletes.

The new Scott Addict RC is super svelte and primed for climbing the cols of Le Tour and the hotly contested neighborhood Strava segments. The Scott team has been working on tightening up the Addict RC for quite a while (five years to be exact). They looked to make it leaner without removing its climbing and sprinting power. It seems the work has paid off, with the newest frameset iteration coming in 300g lighter when compared to its predecessor. It’s not all about weight, though; the Scott Addict RC brings extra spice with an updated geometry, and new Syncros one piece cockpit and a more compliant seatpost design.

What’s New? Scott Addict RC

The updated Scott Addict RC is a super lightweight (under 5.9kg for some models) race bike with a special love for the mountains. As mentioned above, the new frame sheds 300g from the previous version but keeps the liveliness of the ride. For a full breakdown, check out our new piece here.

Scott Addict RC 10 syncros seatpost

How? This involves reducing ‘dead-end tube segments’ during the carbon molding process or creating a more fluid and efficient molding process. The engineering team at Scott says this process is unique in the cycling industry, and it’s only applicable if the frame design is tailor-made for this manufacturing method.

Scott Addict RC 10 syncros bars head on

The updated molding process utilizes an inflatable perform core that keeps the inside of the frame clean and doesn’t show voids or wrinkles in the carbon. Scott says, “Due to the precise inside shape, all the excessive resin is extracted from the frame during molding, leaving only what’s necessary for stiffness and strength.”

In the end, consistent molding pressure across the complete frame surface gives a super compact layup, making any additional reinforcement unnecessary while reducing the thickness to about 0.6mm in some areas. You can learn more about Scott’s unique carbon process and how they trimmed the excess weight in the video below.

A deep dive into the process of creating the Addict RC

Scott’s manufacturing process (PP Mandrel) enables the molding of high-precision inner surfaces and transition zones. When paired with strength-optimized tube shapes that eliminate additional reinforcements and unnecessary filler material, the result is a super lightweight, responsive bike frame.

Scott Addict RC Geo

Along with shedding some weight, the new Addict RC’s geometry has been redesigned. Don’t worry—it’s not a complete overhaul, but Scott moved towards dynamic sizing. This helps carry the Addict RCs’ “true ride feel” throughout the size spectrum. For example, the medium (54cm) now has a headtube angle of 72.8° compared to the previous model’s 72.5° the same size.

The new Addict RC comes in a staggering seven sizes, starting with XXS/47cm and maxing out at XXL/61cm.

Scott’s vision for the new Addict RC is that of a modern rider that embraces wider tires but still wants a performance machine. The update is what we’ve seen from most brands this season. They want to make the race bikes lightly more palatable for various riders without affecting the handling or stability of descending.

Comfort Tuned

Scott has doubled down on comfort for the new Addict. It comes stock with 30mm tires, but the frame has enough clearance for 34mm tires, ensuring a smooth and comfortable ride.

Redesigned Seatpost and Clamp

Another re-do for many companies this season is the seatpost clamp design, and Scott is on pace. The new seatpost clamp supports the Addicts’ overall mission of comfort and a lightweight chassis. The updated clamp allows for thinner seat tube walls and reduced material, saving weight and permitting some seatpost flexion. The clamp also keeps the post in place securely without needing a hefty torque.

SP-R100-SL Seatpost

The new Scott Addict arrives with two different seatpost options, depending on your ride needs and weight demands. The new SL seat post is 10% lighter than the previous model, and the Comfort Seapost offers 30% more flexion than the SL.

How? The new carbon fiber-friendly seat post clamp design and an optimized seat post layup.

Scott Addict RC 10 syncros seatpost

The Comfort seatpost also hides a magnetic bracket system to swap the cover with the new SYNCROS rear light. It’s an excellent addition and melts into the seaport design, never affecting the bike’s silhouette.

IC-R100-SL Integrated Cockpit

The introduction of the new Addict RC set the stage for developing the Syncros cockpit, the IC-R100-SL. The Scott team’s design goal was to create an aerodynamic handlebar that ticked the comfort and stiffness boxes.

Scott Addict RC 10 syncros bars side

Much like the updated Syncros seatpost, the new Syncros IC-R100-SL shaves down the material with a super cool clamp design and an FEA-optimized carbon layup. This new design makes the bar about 40g lighter at the same strength and stiffness as its predecessor.

3D printed Computer mount

Our Scott Addict arrived with a super rad 3D-printed computer holder (above). The mount weighs around 12g without hardware. This new computer mount is almost 70% lighter than the standard CNC machined Syncro computer mounts—plus, they look super cool, too.

Scott Addict RC 10 syncros bar end tool t25

Send in the T-25’s

In a bid to make the Addict RC effortlessly adjustable, Scott is following the Canyon route with a standard of T25 for all adjustments (excluding the thru-axels). The integrated tool within the cockpit or handlebar drop makes the ‘one tool to rule’ idea easier.

What is the tool? A T25 fitted tool that riders can use to fine-tune everything, including stem, handlebar, seat post, saddle clamps, and bottle cages.

Scott Addict RC Range and Pricing

The Addict RC will be available in five different models. All models benefit from a complete HMX carbon construction. The RC Ultimate uses the top-tier HMX-SL carbon for maximum weight reduction. Our review ride is the Scott Addict RC Pro with full Dura-Ace.

One Ride Impressions – Scott Addict RC Pro

Our review Scott Addict RC Pro just arrived, so we haven’t had much time on the road together. But our time (one ride) has been memorable, and I’m stoked for more.

Before the ride details, I would like to comment on the assembly and dial-in of our review rig. The T25 is the only fitting needed for adjustments (except the shifter body and axles). Canyon did the same thing, and I found it fantastic. Unlike Canyon, the Scott Addict RC hides its T25 in the bar end of the new IC-R100-SL rather than the axle, which keeps the bike clean-looking.

The touch points on the bike are comfortable. Though the Syncros Belcarra saddle is too narrow for my liking, but it’s not unrideable. My favorite new addition to the Scott Addict RC is the Syncros IC-R100-SL cockpit. It has a unique shape and reminds me slightly of the Syncros MTB bar with a dramatic bend near the stem.

Scott Addict RC 10 Syncros bars

The shape of the bars (I opted for a 40cm/110mm) is slightly progressive without getting overly narrow or aero with the hoods. The drops have a nice slight 6° flare that’s comfortable and provides some leverage when sprinting.

The bars have a unique clamping design that helps keep the weight down. I’m not sure how much this design would save, but it looks great when tucked into the conceal cap.

Scott Addict RC 10 back side

Our review ride is full Shimano Dura-Ace. It took little time to dial in my preferred position with the help of my Abby Tools Fit Kit. It’s one of my go-to tools for dialing review bikes quickly and headache-free.

On the Road

On the road, the Scott Addict RC felt more like an all-road design than a full race bike. There is no mistake, however. This bike wants to move, especially when the road points uphill. Our Addict RC 10 with Shimano Dura-Ace comes in at 15 lbs stock with no cages or pedals.

Scott Addict RC 10 derail

The geometry is a nice mix of sitting comfortably on the climb and churning out a solid pace. When the descent starts, the Addict RC comes alive. Its steering is sharper than expected, especially with the current 30mm tire setup.

The Syncros wheels perfectly match the Addict RC’s climbing prowess. The Capital 1.0s wheels have a modern 25mm internal width, and a hookless bead. The 40mm depth is a nice mix of aero and climb-worthy light. The rims are laced to DT-240 hubs are an excellent match in weight and longevity. The same applies to the extra Dura Ace 34T climbing gear speed spec’d on the Addict RC 10.

Comfort and Power

The feel and sensation of the Addict RC on the road are a bit old school, as in not overly stiff. Seeing rounder, fluid designs rather than boxy, brutalist shapes is a nice change of pace, especially on the progressive road front.

Scott Addict RC 10 logo

On rougher road sections, the Addict RC is more than capable. The thin and boxy seat stays round out enough chatter, and what they miss, the 30mm Schwalbe Pro One tires will. Considering the thin walled, lightweight tubes, the Addict RC has a tranquil and resonance-free ride.

Scott Addict RC 10 full bike

The bike’s silhouette is beautiful, especially when the glossy white with slight sparkle meets the matte black carbon. Subtle touches in the designs and logo keep the Addict RC classy but still you know its a Scott.

Look for a full review soon as we tick off more miles on the Scott Addict RC. As for our first ride impressions, this bike flies uphill, can handle some rough roads, and will surely catch some retro eyes parked outside the cafe stop.

This all-new 2024 Scott Addict RC is the lightest road bike that Scott has ever made, shedding a surprising 300g from the already-light frameset, and 1kg from its top-tier Ultimate build. But while it’s undeniably one of the lightest production road bikes ever – and sure to be a climber’s dream – Scott still manages to make this a viable modern race bike, with the latest in integration, race-worthy stiffness & handling, improved rider comfort, and even enough aerodynamic tweaks to keep you going fast on the descents, as well.

Now sure, we know that Scott’s complete 5.9kg Addict Rc build is going to cost a fortune (scroll all the way down to see how much!) But with such a lightweight starting point, even the entry-level build with 105 is going to be a featherweight…

It’s been more than 5 years since we saw a ground-up redesign of Scott’s lightweight all-rounder road race bike. At first glance, this new version does not look all that different, really. The previous Addict was already a pretty advanced bike when we first saw it back in 2019. But there’s still a lot to unpack in this new bike, beyond simply dropping a full kilo off the top-spec pro race-ready model!

But that really was the starting point for the new Addict RC.

2024 Scott Addict RC ultralight carbon road bike, angled

Scott’s designers wanted to let racers pick whatever wheels and tires they wanted – going as far wider and more aerodynamic as they wanted – while still getting complete bike weights under the oft-discussed UCI 6.8kg weight limit.

What’s new?

The biggest upgrades to the new Scott Addict RC come inside the frame. Scott says they’ve adopted the same inflatable polypropylene inserts from their lightweight Carbon mountain bike frame constructions to make their new road bike lighter, too. Essentially, by more accurately molding the inside of the frame and eliminating any dead-ends in the mold, Scott is able to eliminate a lot of excess resin in the process, reducing weight while maintaining the same level of strength & stiffness.

Basically, it’s just a more precise location of carbon & resin material inside the frameset.

2024 Scott Addict RC ultralight carbon road bike, landscape

The new Addict RC keeps a similar dropped seatstay design but does inherit some additional aerodynamic optimization inspired by the Foil & Plasma. But here it is more balanced with weight reduction strategies, prioritizing key spots on the frame where stiffness to weight trumps aero.

Scott Addict RC ultralight carbon road bike, fully integrated front view

One example is the new bike’s internal routing. While the previous generation Addict RC already fully integrated its cables and a 1.25-1.5″ tapered fork, Scott’s new headset & internal cable routing paths allowed them to further reduce the width of the headtube for 10% lower frontal area. We don’t have the full specs on the new tapered steerer, but Scott mentions a 27.2mm eccentric profile at the top of the fork. That is 1 1/16″ instead of the standard 1 1/8″, so presumably a smaller diameter steerer helps keep everything thin, while maintaining steering stiffness.

Scott Addict RC ultralight carbon road bike, narrow headtube and wide fork

Then, the new fork also features wider-set legs for smoother airflow over all wheel & tire widths.

And follow that up with shallow but aero tube sections that mostly carry over from the previous generation.

More rider comfort

Scott Addict RC ultralight carbon road bike, 34mm tire clearance

A big part of making the new Scott Addict RC more comfortable was bigger tires. Now even the pros often pick 30mm tires for their lower rolling resistance, better grip, and improved all-day comfort. So that’s the standard tire size spec for the new bike, but there’s enough room to go up to 34mm tire too.

The other big tweak is in the seatpost and how it is clamped in the frame. A new internal wedge from the top of the top tube is said to be gentler on clamping carbon. So, Scott was able to reduce the wall thickness in their SL seatpost, adding a bit more tuned flex and increasing comfort. They also add a new CF seatpost option that is a bit heavier but uses a reduced depth near the upper portion of the post to add even more flex, and a claimed 30% boost in rider comfort.

Evolved race-ready geometry

2024 Scott Addict RC ultralight carbon road bike, geometry

Scott also adapted the new Addict’s geometry to be even slightly more aggressive than before to counteract the naturally more sluggish feel of wider, more comfortable modern road tires. So even though Scott specs all models of their lightweight road bike with 30mm tires, it retains the agile handling and quick steering that has been a hallmark of the Addict RC for 15 years.

At the same time though, Scott ensured the new Addict RC would still have a stable and predictable ride at higher speeds and while descending, especially important on such a light bike so you don’t get blown off your line with a sudden wind gust.

The changes are incremental, but designed to give all sizes of riders a fast but predictable ride.

Just 10 months after they debuted their wildly expensive $1200 SES AR bar, and now ENVE has another one just as expensive called the SES Aero Pro bar. It features a different design for angled-in hoods, different flare, narrower sizes, and even more integrated cable routing. ENVE teased us earlier this year that we could ride the same cockpit as Tadej Pogačar, but now we finally can, as long as our pocketbooks can handle it…

When ENVE launched the $1200 AR bar back in January, they suggested that was the bar they developed for Pogačar. Well sort of.

In reality, ENVE said then that Pogi’s bar was still pro-only for a while longer. We’d actually seen it all the way back two summers ago. Now you can get one too, to get that same narrower hand position, but with comfortable room for your wrists in the drops and angled-in hoods.

ENVE SES Aero Pro bar 1200-dollar 1-piece carbon road bike cockpit, Tadej Pogačar

“When it comes to performance, having a stiff but comfortable handlebar is really important. If you spend so many hours in the saddle like I do, then any contact point with the bike is key and little details make a big difference. I must say I’m really happy with what ENVE have produced for us both with their wheels and handlebars. They take on board feedback from us riders and deliver it into their products.”

– Tadej Pogačar

What’s new?

ENVE SES Aero Pro bar 1200-dollar 1-piece carbon road bike cockpit, rider vew

The biggest functional difference is that this new ENVE SES Aero Pro bar uses a straight flare from the hoods which angles your levers out at the bottom and allows slightly turned-in hoods up top for the narrowest modern road racing position. Compare it to the compound bend flare of the AR. The flare here is also a bit less, so the drops are 3cm wider than the hoods (vs. 5cm wider on the AR).

ENVE SES Aero Pro bar 1200-dollar 1-piece carbon road bike cockpit, US-made in OgdenUT

ENVE also manufactures this new SES Aero Pro bar as a 1-piece carbon monocoque construction, unlike the more modular AR bar. It also gets a smoother top that favors less bar tape – carefully wrapped from the first bend in the tops of the bar for the cleanest look. And so it also features fully enclosed internal cable routing inside the bar to keep your cables out of the wind, unlike the more accessible cable channels on the AR bar that would most often end up under bar tape.

ENVE SES Aero Pro – Pricing, options & availability

It’s hard to ignore the exorbitant $1200 price tag of the new ENVE SES Aero Pro bar. It’s hard to ignore. But such is the price of a pro road bike setup, I guess.

ENVE SES Aero Pro bar 1200-dollar 1-piece carbon road bike cockpit, angled

For that price you get to pick from 90, 100, 110, 120, 130 & 140mm long stems and 37, 39, or 41cm wide bars.

ENVE SES Aero Pro bar 1200-dollar 1-piece carbon road bike cockpit, side view

Officially, all sizes are available now directly from ENVE, and through their regular retail channels. But the handmade nature and high price of the SES Aero Pro bar also means that this new cockpit is only available in relatively slow numbers. And once they sell out the size you might be looking for, it could be a bit of a wait until it’s back in stock.

Coming in as Argonaut Cycle’s new flagship model, the production Supernaut claims to deliver the essence of Argonaut. Originally launched back in 2023 as a limited edition, the Supernaut is now a permanent member of the family, with 30 dedicated production slots available in 2025.

Built on a decade of innovative composite manufacturing, all in the pursuit of perfecting the ride quality, the Supernaut distills that experience into the “perfect bicycle”, and one that the crew at Argonaut chooses to ride, day in and day out.

Ben Farver, Argonaut Founder says “This is the bike we want to ride. Every. Single. Day. A performance-centered build focused on ride quality, speed, experience, and enjoyment.”

Argonaut Supernaut

The Supernaut will be produced in raw carbon with Caribbean Pearl accents, and will only be available in a complete bike. Once Argonaut calculates a rider’s “biomechanical window”, that is to say, a rider’s optimal position for efficient power generation, the rider will have 13 size options to choose from, precisely matching the rider’s physical needs.

Each one of the Supernauts is made in Bend, Oregon. They use a composite engineering technique called high-pressure silicone molding (HPSM). This technique is said to improve the efficiency and quality of the molding process.

The in-house HPSM process can make sizes-specific layup patterns, and “dramatically higher-quality” parts. Even the tooling for the HPSM technique is made in Bend Oregon allowing Argonaut to be in complete control of quality.

Supernaut GR3 and RM3

The Supernaut line includes the GR3 gravel bike and the RM3 Road machine. With the Supernaut line, Argonaut offers similar performance whether you’re riding road or gravel.

Argonaut states that the Supernaut is the expression of hundreds of potential carbon layups over the years. They provide carbon layup patterns based on rider weight, power, and intended use, making for an unforgettable gravel or road riding experience.

When it comes to the Supernaut, Argonaut was looking at the bike as a “system” that started with a concept of enhanced ride quality. Argonaut says that they were able to find the exact point on the displacement curve where the rider’s output matches the natural flex of the frame.

The Supernaut also makes the buying experience easy with pre-determined build kits and paint. It will be available exclusively with SRAM Red or Shimano Dura-Ace, as well as Argonaut’s D33/R43 wheelsets.

These bikes are all built by hand in the PNW, utilizing cutting-edge carbon-building techniques. The experience starts with a conversation with the Argonaut team. They will work directly with the rider throughout the process, providing mechanical support and ongoing consults as needed.

Colnago Steelnovo 70th anniversary road bike with 3d printed components

How is Colnago celebrating 70 years of bicycle history? With a fully Italian limited edition creation that blends classic material with modern construction methods, of course. The Steelnovo is a gorgeous addition to the Colnago steel lineage with seamlessly integrated 3D-printed lugs. Only 70 of these beauties will be offered, with a price to match…

Colnago’s history with steel dates back to the early days of the company’s founding in Cambiago, in 1954. Up until the late 90’s steel was a huge part of the brand, whether it was brazed or welded. Working hand in hand with Columbus to develop custom tube shapes, Colnago has continued that tradition here with Columbus tubing mated to 3D-printed steel lugs made by Additiva.

Those 3D printed components include the top and bottom head tube lugs, seat tube-top tube and seat stay lugs, rear dropouts, and custom components like the head tube logo printed in relief.

Thanks to the 3D printed droput, the Steelnovo features one of the sleekest UDH dropouts we’ve seen. While the Steelnovo does offer tire clearance for up to 700c x 35mm, it’s still a road bike, so the addition of UDH is an interesting one – especially when you consider the custom Campagnolo Super Record Wireless groupset included on the build. It’s highly unlikely that the owner of one of these limited edition builds is ever going to replace the drivetrain with something that needs UDH, or is even likely to ride it enough to need a replacement derailleur hanger, but as a design exercise, the dropouts are impressive.

Other modern standards include a T47-68 threaded bottom bracket, and a tapered head tube with 1 1/8 – 1 1/4″ bearings with SLT technology.

Colnago calls the Steelnovo’s geometry “modern” with seven sizes available from 42cm to 57cm. You might expect that a limited edition 70th Anniversary bike from Colnago would be expensive, and you’d be correct. The retail price is set at $18,000, but hey, you could still buy a couple of these before that $50k Specialized. Initially, the Stelnovo Settanta will only be available from colnago.com, but after 15 days if there are still any left, you’ll be able to order it from an authorized dealer.

Off Bike Apparel Capsule Collection

For those looking to celebrate 70 years of Colnago without dropping $18k, the brand is also offering a “high-end apparel capsule collection consisting of 10 garments, which will be available only on the Cambiago-based brand’s website.” And by high-end, they mean it – pricing includes a $591 Black Cashmere polo shirt and tops out at the $2,362 Navy Blue Trench. Perfect for those who take their fashion as seriously as their bikes.
